Change Your Thoughts To Change Your Life

Inner Peace Promotes Wellness

The world is going through chaotic changes right now, changes that need to happen since we are in the age of peace, the age of Aquarius. That peace starts with us and our thoughts and beliefs. Is your mind cluttered with fears and anger, a lot of negative beliefs? What you think, affects how you feel physically, mentally, and spiritually. Your fear-based and limiting negative thoughts, can actually cause illness in the body and mind.  Science now knows there is a mind/body connection.

A great book to read about this is “The Biology Of Belief” by Bruce Lipton, Ph.D. A quote of his from the book—“Beliefs and thoughts alter cells in your body”. And how do we change our thoughts and beliefs? For a long time it was thought that just thinking and expressing positive affirmations would change all that. It might help some but not enough. A quote again from Bruce Lipton, Ph.D. that explains it best.

Psych-K Energy Healing Therapy

“Our thoughts are mainly controlled by our subconscious, which is largely formed before the age of 6, and you cannot change the subconscious mind by just thinking about it. That’s why the power of positive thinking will not work for most people. The subconscious mind is like a tape player. Until you change the tape, it will not change.”

According to Dr. Bruce Lipton, the fastest and easiest way to change the subconscious is using Psych-K techniques.  This psychological process helps you to communicate directly with your subconscious mind so you can discover your programmed hidden beliefs that could be sabotaging your peace and success.  Psych-K is whole brain integration, a way to work with the conscious and subconscious together.  Studies indicate that 95% of our consciousness is actually in the subconscious. To learn more about Psych-K and the founder Robert Williams, M.A, check out this you tube link.  visit Psych-K

I have taken the classes and used the Psych-K modalities for years now and have undergone a lot
of changes for the better. It helped me to let go of many of my struggles. I feel peaceful and calm
because of it. It’s a technique that I highly recommend to change those self-sabotaging beliefs thus
changing your life. Please give me a call and I will tell you more.

Dry Skin Treatment Tips

Expert Advice On Treating Dry Skin

When it comes to preventing dry skin, many skin care experts rave about moisturizers with alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), originally derived from milk, fruit, or sugarcane. Alpha hydroxy acids are a group of natural acids found in foods. Alpha hydroxy acids include citric acid (found in citrus fruits), glycolic acid (found in sugar cane), lactic acid(found in sour milk), malic acid (found in apples), tartaric acid (found in grapes), and others. Various alpha hydroxy acids are applied to the skin (used topically) for moisturizing and removing dead skin cells, for treating acne and improving the appearance of acne scars, for improving the appearance of photo-aged skin, and firming and smoothing skin.

Alpha hydroxy acids are also used topically to treat extremely dry skin, an inherited disease marked by dry, scaly skin, and a condition that causes darkening of the skin. Alpha hydroxy acids seem to work by removing the top layers of dead skin cells. They can also increase the thickness of deeper layers of skin, promoting firmness.

“They remove dry, dead, crusty, scaly skin, and they trap moisture in your skin,” says Joan Kesman, owner of Skin Care Plus in geneva, Illinois.
“Some over-the-counter AHA products are better than others.”

“There’s so much that women can do for dry skin,” Kesman said. “A new generation of moisturizers and skin products are available to help dry skin.”

More Tips On Treating Dry Skin

Milk. If your itchy winter dry skin is driving you crazy, pour milk into a bowl. Dip a washcloth or a piece of gauze in the cold milk, and apply it to your skin for five minutes. “Milk has anti-inflammatory properties that often take the itch away. Some milk contains lactic acid, which is beneficial to skin.

Grease. Watery, scented lotions are useless on dry skin. Use strong, thick creams or emollients.

Moisturize. The best time of all to oil or cream your face and body is after a bath or shower, while you’re still damp and your skin is plump with moisture. Moisturizing lotions are formulated to lock in moisture so that it doesn’t evaporate. First, soak in a lukewarm tub. Get out of the tub and pat yourself semi-dry, then apply a layer of oil. Leave it on overnight if possible. Often, the very driest of skin occurs on your heels, hands, and elbows. Seal them with grease, too.

Facials Improve Skin Health

Facials A Powerful Part Of Total Skin Care

Facials are a group of skin treatments intended to improve the cosmetic appearance of the skin. Facials also improve the health of the skin. In general, facials are thought to alter the texture, tone, coloring, or firmness of the skin in a way that many people consider attractive. A facial involves a variety of skin treatments, including steam, exfoliation, extraction, creams, lotions, facial masks, peels, and massage.

Facials usually involve the application of various mixtures to the skin, involving materials such as clay, seaweed, oils, and creams that all are applied to the skin to achieve different purposes. Some masks promote deep-cleansing, by penetrating the pores. Others can help heal acne scars or hyper-pigmentation, while others are for brightening your skin tone and complexion. Some masks dry or solidify on the face, almost like plaster. Other mixtures remain wet. A facial treatment can help revitalize, heal, and refresh your skin.

Facials can focus on improving one aspect of the skin’s appearance, or they can offer a general benefit. A facial may focus on removing blemishes, eliminating discoloration, firming the skin, or unclogging pores. Facials are generally categorized as:

  • European facial
  • LED light therapy facial
  • Mini-facial

Throughout history, people have sought to change the appearance of their face to fit the values of the time. In ancient Egypt, they used scented oils and ointments to clean and soften their skin. Oils and creams also were used for protection against the hot sun and dry winds. Cleopatra used black mud as a mask. She used sea salts to exfoliate and she finished with an application of essential oils. So, facials have withstood the test of time.

We are pleased to say that herbal products and natural medicines are more integrated into the mainstream than ever. More facial compounds now include natural and organic substances.

Warm steam may be applied to the face prior to the application of the facial mask. A variety of materials are then applied to your face, either by hand or with a brush or towel. The mixture is applied to the front of the face while avoiding your lips, ears, nostrils, and head hairline. The lips, ears, and nostrils are avoided because the facial mixture may irritate mucous membranes.

Mixtures contain a variety of ingredients, from mud to caviar. As a whole, the mixture is generally intended to improve the appearance of the skin, remove dead skin cells and open the skin pores. The attendant then leaves the facial mask on for a period of time, usually 15-30 minutes. Depending on the mask ingredients and duration of the application, the facial mask may dry or it may stay moist. Several different layers of mixture may be applied. Though the sensation of having a thick substance spread on the skin may be an unusual one, patrons should never feel any discomfort or pain.

Heart Rhythm Reflects Health, Harmony

Positive Thoughts Critical To Health, Beauty

According to new research from the HeartMath Institute, our thoughts and emotions affect us and others more than we realized. Our hearts are an amazing source of intelligence, the seat of our emotions and the source and messenger of vital information essential for physical health and balance. Research shows that our heart rhythm patterns are more smooth and balanced with positive emotions and more jagged and erratic with negative emotions. This is more positive feedback that our emotions and thoughts affect our body inside and out–including our skin.

Energy healing facial treatments and sound energy therapy are both great ways to help you with positive emotions to keep your body healthy and younger looking.

Take a look at this short video clip to learn more.
What is heart intelligence? Heart intelligence is the flow of intuitive awareness, understanding and inner guidance we experience when the mind and emotions are brought into coherent alignment with the heart. It can be activated through self-initiated practice. The more coherent we are and the more we pay attention to this deeper intuitive inner guidance, the greater our ability to access this intelligence more frequently. Heart intelligence underlies cellular organization and guides and evolves organisms toward increased order, awareness and coherence of their bodies’ systems.

Skin Toners Part Of Effective Skin Care

Toners Target Damaged Skin

We recently explained the importance of facial cleansing and skin cleansers. The next step in your skin care routine is a toner, also called clarifying lotion or freshener. They come with different ingredients for different skin conditions, such as humectants for dehydrated skin, calming agents for sensitive skin, antibacterials for acne skin, etc. Toners are water-based and help protect the skin after cleansing.

The most beneficial part of toners is that they fill in “hot spots” on your face. Most people have skin damage from stress, pollution, diet, and improper products. By using toner and filling in those spots, your product will be more effective. Another benefit is to help spread your serum over the skin for better absorption. Spray toners are popular and easier to use. Just a light spray, leave it on and apply serum. The use of a toner is recommended for all of the added benefits.

Clean Your Face Properly For Optimum Skin Health

Facial Cleansing Twice Per Day Promotes Healthy, Beautiful Skin

Cleansing your face is the first and most important step in your twice daily skin care routine. If the skin is not clean, your toners, serums and lotions or creams will not be effective. Also not cleansing appropriately will cause the skin to be rough feeling, congested, dull, dry, and age faster. So to have healthier, younger looking skin, you need to cleanse twice a day. Once in the morning is sufficient, but two times at night is necessary.

A morning wash gets all of the dead skin cells that float around your room, other pollution in your house, and the skin care product you have on from the night before. It’s best to clean the face twice at night to really clear off the makeup, oil and perspiration that develops, and the toxins from the air. Even if you don’t wear makeup, cleanse your face twice at night.

To accomplish this you need a gentle cleanser that is still powerful enough to remove the collected debris. A professional cleanser is best. Most of them can take the eye makeup off too. And the disposable wipes are not a thorough enough cleansing. They are only good for a pre-cleanse. Soaps are a no-no also because they are too harsh and cause the skin to be dry and irritated. They can leave a film on the face, preventing absorption of your serums and creams.

Wet your hands and face with warm water. Apply cleanser to every area of the face and neck with your fingers, getting into every nook and cranny. Rewet your face and massage lightly for at least 30 seconds each time you wash, more can be better. This helps you to clean out the pores better and soften the residue. You can liken this to soaking your pots and pans. The soap softens the residue and makes for easier cleaning. Use a soft washcloth and warm water to remove all the cleanser. (A fresh washcloth needs to be used each time.) Then splash your face with warm water to be sure all the cleanser is off. You can pat dry lightly if you are not using a toner. Otherwise, leave you face damp for the next step.

Other Skin Care Tips

  • Going to bed with makeup on can age your skin up to seven times faster.
  • Cold water should never be used to wash your face. It blocks the skin from a proper cleanse and exfoliation because the pores are constricted.
  • Medicated lip balms that have camphor actually dry out your lips. No petroleum or mineral oil, they also dry your lips. Look for shea butter, coconut oil, jojoba oil, aloe, vitamins A, D and E.

Natural Anti-Aging Secrets

Chicago Spa Offers Seven Tips For Healthier Skin

Sesame Seed Oil: Massage organic sesame oil all over your body. Working it into the skin gets your blood circulating. Plus, the oil hydrates your skin, giving it a healthy glow. Then take a shower and rinse away dead skin cells.

Fish Oil: Anti-inflammatories are the best anti-agers out there. From improving heart and immune functions to helping hair grow and skin look supple, they truly do wonders. I take three 500 milligram capsules of omega-3 fish oil in the morning and at night. Look for labels that say, ‘molecularly distilled for purity,’ which means pesticide-free.

Avoid White Sugar: The number-one ingredient that I avoid in my diet is processed sugar. The reason: It speeds up the aging process by binding to and eventually weakening the collagen in your skin, which can lead to premature wrinkles and sagging. Eat lots of vegetables and fruits every day.

Use White Sugar As An Exfoliant: Before you toss out that bag of white sugar, add it to your skin care arsenal. In the shower, lather your hands with a mild cleanser, add a handful of white sugar, and rub it all over your face and body. It makes your skin very smooth.

Treat Eyes With Extra Care: I treat the skin around my eyes separately. Face creams can be too irritating, but products made for this delicate area work wonders for smoothing fine lines.

Pamper Your Hands: Take care of your hands with the same routine used on your face. Exfoliate your hands and use a mask on them, too. Try an enzyme concentrate on your face and hands.

Give Your Skin Vitamins: Try an over-the-counter topical vitamin C cream with a 30 percent concentration. It’s a wonderful antioxidant that helps skin repair itself from sun damage. Another way to inject your skin with moisture and vitamin C is with bananas. Mash up a banana and apply it to your skin as a mask. Let it set just like a regular mask and wash it off after it drys.

Also, be sure to minimize your consumption of alcohol and tobacco. We also urge you to minimize your use of makeup. Although makeup might make you look happy and healthy, it can clog pores and inject toxins directly into your body.

Toxic Skin Care Products

Health, Beauty More Than Skin Deep

Some companies put ingredients in skin care products that can cause cancer or that are associated with developmental problems. Many cosmetics ingredients penetrate the skin. People ingest ingredients used on lips and hands, while we inhale sprays and powders. When risky and unstudied chemicals are used in cosmetics, the stakes are high for you and your family.

When you know what’s in the skin care and beauty products that you use, you can protect yourself, while reforming the marketplace. You’ll find product and ingredient safety ratings, health information about cosmetics ingredients and smart shopping tips that you can trust.

Protect Your Children From Harmful Skin Care Products

Pound for pound, kids are exposed to more contaminants in air, water, food, and personal care products than adults. Immature organ systems are often less capable of fending off chemical assaults. Subtle damage to developing bodies may lead to disease later in life.

Parents can make healthy choices by using fewer personal care products for their children, ignoring ad hype and following these guidelines.

Teens use cosmetics. Sometimes lots of them. From hair gels and straighteners to eye make-up, body wash and lotions. Knowing which ones are healthy and which ones aren’t is very important. Why? EWG found that adolescent girls’ bodies are contaminated with chemicals commonly used in cosmetics and body care products. In fact, we detected 16 potentially toxic chemicals — phthalates, triclosan, parabens, and musks — in blood and urine samples from 20 teen girls. Studies link these chemicals to potential health effects including cancer and hormone disruption.

To make matters worse, teens may be particularly sensitive to exposures to hormone-disrupting chemicals, given the complex role they play during puberty – precisely when girls typically experiment with an increasing number and variety of body care products. When we surveyed them, our teen study participants reported using an average of 17 personal care products each day, 40 percent more than an adult woman.

Teens can easily make safer choices by reducing the number of body care products they use, viewing marketing claims with skepticism, and always checking the ingredients for toxins.

Many Cosmetic Products Contain Gluten

Avoid Allergens In Skin Care Products

If you have celiac disease, your skin and entire body may respond strongly and negatively to gluten. Certain products, including non-food items, can contain hidden gluten. And while the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has developed “gluten-free” labeling standards for food products, these standards do not apply to every item that could contain gluten, including cosmetics.

Geneva skin care and facial

Research presented at the 2011 annual meeting of the American College of Gastroenterology demonstrated how difficult it is for consumers to find out whether their beauty products contain forms of gluten. Even though you’re not actually eating cosmetics, even a small amount of gluten in a lip balm could cause a problem — think of how often you bite or lick your lip.

Researchers have raised the question of whether gluten-containing lotions and moisturizers might trigger a response in the skin of a person with celiac disease. The investigation was prompted by case studies of two women who had contact irritation on their skin that went away when they stopped eating gluten in their diet and stopped using beauty products containing gluten.

In beauty products, hydrolyzed gluten is used to make both emulsifiers and stabilizers. This is an area of research that requires further exploration, but people with celiac disease who want to live a gluten-free lifestyle should be aware of the ingredients in their cosmetics. The skin absorbs these ingredients quickly, so the risk is very real. When in doubt, contact the maker of your favorite brands and ask about their position on gluten-free products. Many companies have statements listed on their websites because gluten is a growing skin care issue among consumers.

Skin Care Secrets From Glamour Girls

Models Share Top Tricks For Glowing Skin

Contrary to popular belief, not all models are born with glowing skin. They deal with complexion quirks like anyone else—and they’re often made ten times worse thanks to the amount of makeup they have to wear on the job. Although models are genetically gifted, they’re not immune to acne, puffy eyes, dry skin, and a host of other beauty problems.

For models, having anything but a glowing complexion is simply not an option. “Taking care of their skin is not about being vain or wanting to feel good—it’s an investment in their career,” says Samantha Wright, an esthetician at Dangene, a skin clinic in New York that counts A-list models and actresses among their clients.

Geneva skin care and facial

Understandably, models approach skin care a little differently than many of us—their jobs depend on it. Here’s what these professional beauties do to keep their skin in peak condition.

They make a plan—and stick with it.
Fashion Week happens in the spring and fall, but models prep all year ‘round. “I recommend people prepare months in advance before any large event,” says Dr. Jennifer MacGregor, a dermatologist at Union Square Laser Dermatology in New York City. “I usually start people six months out, but three months is okay.” Along with a topical skin-care regimen, she may recommend lasers (such as Fraxel or Permea) to address more challenging issues, such as hyperpigmentation.

They think of ALL of their skin.
Models never know when they’ll need to wear a plunging neckline or backless dress on the runway. That’s why their skin care doesn’t end with their face. “We can focus on the body, smoothing out the chest and the back—even the stomach,” Wright says. An appointment at Dangene starts with a head-to-toe evaluation, followed by customized treatments that could include mole removal, microdermabrasion, or a collagen-boosting LED session. “We might do an acid wash to get rid of all the dead skin cells,” Wright explains, “so when a model walks down the runway, she glistens, shines, and is flawless.”

They build a relationship with their dermatologist.
Dermatologist Dr. Jeannette Graf often answers questions via email or text, teaching her model clients how to treat mini-emergencies at home. Make sure your powder room is stalked with the lotions and potions you need to treat a blemish, calm your skin, or get an immediate glow.

They know what to do when zit happens.
If models break out before a big shoot, they have a couple of treatment options. “If it’s a deep cyst, they can come in for an emergency cortisone injection,” says Dr. MacGregor. By reducing inflammation, these shots reduce the size and redness of even the biggest blemish. For smaller breakouts, Dr. MacGregor recommendsNeutrogena On-the-Spot acne treatment. “It’s a more mild benzoyl peroxide that won’t cause as much irritation,” she explains. (For more on battling blemishes, read this.)

They make their facials count.
“Even models get stressed out,” says celebrity esthetician Joanna Vargas. “They’re running around and not eating well.” When this happens, Vargas gives models a Power Peel treatment. First, a mild fruit acid and paprika peel gently resurfaces the skin. Then, models sit under a healing LED light before oxygen is sprayed to brighten the complexion and destroy bacteria. “They look perfect without us having to do a lot of intervention,” Vargas says. And for a model, that’s just a perk of the job.
